We will also be attending some outreach events in the community to give advice and support to carers. Read on to find out where you can find us during the week.
Dementia Workshop For Carers – Monday 13th May 2024
We have partnered up with Dementia Carers Count to hold a workshop for carers to come together, and not only share experiences but receive advice and guidance from professionals in this area. Dementia Carers Count are a national charity made up of a team of health and social care professionals, providing practical and emotional support to family carers.
Hosting the workshop…
Vickie Ridge – Senior Adult Carer Practitioner/ Dementia Lead from Carers Trust Solihull . Vickie carries out Carers Assessments and Support plans for carers and is the lead for sourcing information about local and national dementia support, then linking this information to carers.
Katy Evans – Specialist Practitioner at Dementia Carers Count, Katy is an experienced social worker based in South Wales with a background in local authority and adult social care. She is specialised in dementia, having worked in an integrated, multi-disciplinary service helping carers to manage challenging behaviour.
Caring for someone with dementia can be challenging in many ways. For many people it can feel very isolating, and many carers can feel invisible. In this event we are looking to support carers who are looking after someone with dementia by both helping to understand its challenges and ways of managing them. As well as connecting and giving people the chance to talk and reduce feelings of loneliness.
How we will be exploring our understanding of dementia:
- Considering the everyday challenges and ways of supporting the person and yourselves
- Giving you the chance to connect with each other and time to share your experiences
- Offering the chance to talk to experienced dementia professionals in the group or 1:1 in a safe space
- Explore what is available in your area and ways of accessing ongoing support.
After the session, if you would like to stay on for a coffee to chat to other carers in the bistro area, you are very welcome to (3.00 – 4.00pm).
This session takes place on Monday 13th May, 1pm – 3pm at McCarthy and Stone Development, Wheatley Place, Stratford Road, Shirley, B90 4GZ (free parking on site).
