Here at Carers Trust Solihull, our Young Carers Team support more than 1,000 children and young adults, from as young as five years old right up to 25.
Their time is spent caring for a family member who could be dealing with a disability, long-term illness, mental health issues, and terminal illness. Providing care often takes up so much time that it’s more common than not that a young carer will suffer social isolation, poor school attendance, struggle with managing their schoolwork, as well as taking on further responsibilities beyond their age.
They are not being able to live their lives as young people; play, socialise, follow their dreams and fuel their imaginations—they deserve a break, they deserve a Blackwell adventure!
At Blackwell, children who would not normally be able to have a holiday are given the chance to have fun and be young.
For a lot of our young carers, this would be their first opportunity to have a carefree break for a few days to meet new friends, relax, and try new activities that some of us could only dream of: abseiling, kayaking, archery, bush-craft, laser tag, caving, disc golf, and so much more!
Due to the hard work and dedication of our young carer team, and the incredible donations we received from people just like you, we have been able to make this dream trip a reality for so many young carers, for several years.
We can’t express how much your donations mean to all our young carers who have been selected to make the trip — so, we’d like to show you instead!
For some lucky young carers, the trip to Blackwell has already been a reality!
Thanks to donors and the hard work of our supporters we were able to provide a much-needed break for some of our young carers, and it meant the world to them!
Don’t just take our word for it, look at the photos from Blackwell 2025 to see, and read in their own words, how much it means to them!
We are doing our best to make this an annual event, but we can’t do it alone. Our funding from Solihull Council is dedicated to other support and guidance for carers of all ages. To keep sending our young carers, who have only known caring for others, on their dream Blackwell adventure, we need support and donations.
For this year’s event, we fell short of our goal. We still managed to send some children on the trip, but we want to do more and send more. You can still donate for Blackwell 2026 and all of those proceeds will go towards (what we hope will be) another dream adventure for our young carers!
